    Cinnamon Sugar Buttercream Icing

Ahhh...the sweet memories of cinnamon sugar toast!

The warm toast, slathered with butter and topped with the perfectly blended cinnamon sugar! How can it get any better than that??? I didn't think it could...until I made up this recipe for Cinnamon Sugar Buttercream Icing! Simply put, it's all the tantalizing flavors of perfectly sweet butter and the warm and toasty flavors of cinnamon all wrapped into one deliciously good icing!

Honestly, this icing was so good I made toast immediately and spread the Cinnamon Sugar Buttercream Icing all over it! YUM! I can see using this to top cinnamon buns hot out of the oven...as a dip Banana Bread Cream Cheese Swirl Cakefor fruit...BUT, the best pairing has to be my Banana Bread Cream Cheese Swirl Cake with Cinnamon Sugar Icing topped with brown sugar crumbles! That right there is heaven on a fork! Here's a peak at what that combo looks like!

Now that your mouth is watering...let's get to the recipe for Cinnamon Sugar Buttercream Icing!

    What you'll need:

    • Flour
    • Half and Half
    • White Sugar
    • Butter
    • Ground Cinnamon

    Step One:

Measure 1 ½ Cups of Half and Half Cream and ½ Cup all purpose flour and whisk together thoroughly to remove any lumps.  I used my Nutra Bullet to make combining these two ingredients easier, but you can use a whisk or a blender. Even an immersion blender should work. Put combined liquid into a medium size saucepan and cook over medium heat until mixture begins to boil, whisk constantly until it thickens. Cool completely before adding to the butter and sugar. I put my flour mixture into a shallow dish and put in the fridge while I continued making the icing.

    Step Two:

Combine white sugar with cinnamon to make....cinnamon sugar! Place butter and cinnamon sugar in bowl of stand mixer (or mixing bowl if you are using a hand mixer) and beat on medium high with paddle attachment until the sugar combines with the butter and is no longer gritty. This will take a while! Be sure to scrape down the sides of your mixing bowl frequently. This step took at least 5 minutes...but could be a bit longer, because I forgot to time it! The mixture is ready when it is no longer gritty to touch and it lightens up in color.

    Step Three:

Add the flour mixture into the butter/sugar mixture. Using the whisk attachment on your stand mixer, whisk on high until the mixture comes together and beings to look like whipped cream. Voila! Cinnamon Sugar Buttercream Icing! This makes about 4 cups of icing. I used about 2 cups on my Banana Bread Cream Cheese Swirl Cake and put the other 2 cups in the fridge...when my bananas ripen,  I can make another cake!  It was that GOOD!
