pint glass with chocolate frosty and a spoon

I was playing around with the Ninja Foodi Cold & Hot Blender one afternoon and thought I'd make a fake milkshake by combining a few ingredients that I had on hand.

What I created was the most delicious Chocolate Frosty! I couldn't believe it. Then, I started questioning myself. Does this really taste like a Chocolate Frosty?

I haven't had one in so long that I wasn't sure. So, I asked my friend, Amber, to make one and tell me what she thought. I did a little dance when she gave it the 2 thumbs up and said it tastes like a Chocolate Frosty! YAY!

What is in a Wendy's Chocolate Frosty?

Who knows! It is a tightly held secret for sure. Now, people have been making various versions of a homemade copycat Wendy's Frosty for a very long time and the ingredients vary quite a bit.

I saw some that used ice cream, others that used cool whip topping, but none that used the same ingredients as I did. Could that be because this recipe isn't really a Wendy's Copycat Frosty?

Could be, but it doesn't matter as long it's a delicious chocolate treat and that it is!

What Type of Blender do I Need to Make This Recipe?

Any high speed blender that has the capability of completely crushing ice. I used the Ninja Foodi Cold & Hot Blender and let me tell you... this blender is incredible!

It's also VERY inexpensive compared to other high speed blenders and it cooks, too! Unreal.

You can certainly use a Vitamix or any other power blender to make this Chocolate Frosty, but if you wanted to make... let's say, Homemade Tortilla Soup, you'll need the Ninja Foodi Cold & Hot Blender for that!

chicken tortilla soup in a white bowl with cheese

Yep, that's right... the Ninja Foodi Cold & Hot Blender can make chunky soup in a press of a button. I love it!

It can also make tons of other things and it is so fun to play with! If you have or are thinking about getting one, you might want to join our Facebook Group for the NF HC Blender. I'll link to it right ⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎

Can I make this Chocolate Frosty Dairy Free?

Yep! There are a few ways you could do this. The first thing that comes to mind is to replace the heavy cream with coconut milk (with the cream), the kind in the can.

That would give the creaminess and richness of heavy cream without dairy. You might need to add a little more chocolate syrup to boost the chocolate flavor so you don't taste coconut.

Personally, I like coconut and chocolate together, so it sounds quite delicious to me!

You can also use soy milk or any other dairy free "milk" product you like. I bet you could even use dairy free yogurt.

Can I Substitute the Heavy Whipping Cream?

Yep! I have done that a few times. I simply used whole milk instead of the cream. It was very good, but not quite as rich or thick.

I'm sure you can use any kind of milk or even yogurt and it would be delicious!

Can I Substitute the Chocolate Syrup for Chocolate Chips?

Yes, but it's not as simple as just adding chocolate chips or even melted chocolate and blending.

If you were to melt the chocolate by itself and add it in to the cold ingredients, it would harden right away and then become gritty.

If you wanted to use chocolate chips instead of syrup, here is how to do it.

Place between ⅔ & 1 cup of chocolate chips in the blender with 1 cup of cream. Select the manual heat mode on low. Pulse every minute or so until the chocolate is completely melted into the cream.

Then add 2 ½ cups of ice and instead of selecting the frozen drink function, select the ice cream function.

    Enjoy!

I don't see why not. You could cut the cream in half and replace it with coffee.

This is her best for so many reasons.
      1. Louise, whom we trust found the mixture of ingredients that created the Frosty duplicate.
      2. By using ingredients that use sugar substitutes less calories.
      3. Stay at home mix - no driving - EZ Mix to enjoy your fix.

I was wondering if I could use Half & Half in this recipe instead of the Heavy Cream..

Just made this in my hot/cold blender (that I just recently purchased because I was so impressed by it in your videos) and wow, this frosty is perfect! And I can make it keto friendly when I use sugar free chocolate syrup! My teenage daughter used to work at Wendy’s and said it’s a very impressive closeness to the original Frosty! Thank you for the recipe, Louise!
