Making homemade Hawaiian Fried Rice is so quick and easy in the Ninja Foodi, it literally takes less than 30 minutes!
I have a little confession to make. I didn't plan this recipe at all. I was just hungry one night and looked in the fridge. There sat this little bit of fresh pineapple that was just begging to be eaten. What in the world do I make with pineapple? I didn't have ham or much of anything in the fridge. I had rice though.
I fired up the Ninja Foodi and made some rice. Added in the pineapple, a bit of ginger, and eggs. Voila... I had pineapple fried rice. My husband isn't a fan of fried rice, but when he tried it, he said it was delicious and would be even more delicious with ham! He's so smart. Hawaiian Fried Rice was born!

What kind of Rice Can I use to make Hawaiian Fried Rice?
Typically fried rice is made using a white rice. This recipe calls for white jasmine rice, but if you want to switch your rice that's okay, too!
If you want to make fried rice with a different type of rice, here are a few options and suggestions on cooking times:
White Rice: Regular white long grain rice can be substituted for the jasmine rice and no changes need to be made to the liquid or the cooking time.
Brown Rice: Brown Rice is perfectly fine to use for fried rice, but you do have to cook it longer. My recommendation is to use 1 cup of brown rice with 1 ¼ cup of water, 1 tablespoon of sesame oil and pressure cook it on high for 12 minutes with an immediate release. The rice will finish up cooking during the sauté time and become the perfect texture for fried rice.
If you want it a little softer, just add a bit more liquid after pressure cooking and close the lid to let it absorb the liquid. Then proceed with the recipe.
Basmati Rice: Basmati rice is used a lot in Indian cooking and can be used in fried rice. No changes need to be made to liquid or timing when using basmati rice.
Arborio Rice: I do not recommend using Arborio rice to make fried rice. This rice is used a lot when making risotto because it is very starchy and produces a creamy texture when liquid is absorbed. This will make it difficult for you to get the individual grains of rice that you want in fried rice.
Instant Rice: I do not recommend using instant rice or minute rice in a pressure cooker for any recipe. This rice has been cooked and then dehydrated, so it only needs a few minutes of cooking time to rehydrate. Even zero minutes of pressure cooking time will result in instant rice being overcooked and mushy.
I know there are many other kinds of rice and if you have a specific one you want to use that is not listed here, leave me a comment and I will try to help you with cooking times and liquid amounts.
How to make Fried Rice
Making fried rice is simple, especially in the Ninja Foodi! It is recommended in a lot of recipes to use day-old rice to make your fried rice. This is because freshly cooked rice can be sticky and doesn't give you that texture of fried rice.
We can skip that step and make rice that is perfect for fried rice in just a few minutes! By pressure cooking the rice for just 1 minute and adding a touch of oil to the water, we get the perfect texture for Hawaiian Fried Rice or any version of Fried Rice you want to make!
I have made rice, all different types of rice, at least 103 times in the Ninja Foodi. Well... that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but it feels like I am always making rice! I don't even eat that much rice, but I want to get the timing down for various recipes so you don't have to deal with some of the failed rice attempts that I have had.
When making fried rice you can put any ingredients in the fried rice you want, but I urge you to follow these tips to ensure your Hawaiian Fried Rice or any type of fried rice turns out correctly the first time.
- Rinse the rice. I know it is one more step, but it only takes a few minutes and makes a big difference in fried rice. Rinse the rice until the water turns clear and the easiest tool I have found to this is using a fine mesh strainer. They aren't very expensive and work great for so many things. You find one like I use right HERE.
- Use the timing and liquid volume I use in this recipe if you are using white rice. If you are using a different rice, follow my suggestions described above. You might be tempted to increase the cooking time, but please keep in mind that the rice will cook longer after the initial pressure cooking time.
- Don't add too much soy sauce or other liquids. If you add too much liquid during the sauté time, your rice may come out sticky or soupy. Keep the liquids to a minimum. You substitute some of the water in the PC time with another thin liquid if you like. I recommend substituting no more than ¼ cup.

Instructions
- Rinse the Jasmine Rice under cold water for 2-3 minutes. Combine 1 Cup of rice with 1 Cup of water and 1 tablespoon of Sesame Oil in the inner pot of the Ninja Foodi.
- Put the pressure lid on and set the pressure on high for 1 minute. Set the black valve to seal. Immediately release the pressure. Remove the pressure lid.
- While the rice is cooking, dice up your ingredients.
- Add in all the remaining ingredients, except the eggs and green onions. Stir. Put the TenderCrisp lid down and set the Air Crisp function on 390° F for 10 minutes. Stir every 2-3 minutes.
- Push the rice to the edges, making a well in the center. Scramble 2 eggs. Turn on the sear/saute on high. Add the eggs to the center and leave them alone until they begin to set on the bottom.
- Once the eggs begin to set, use a chopstick or other utensil that is safe for non-stick and move them around continuously while they finish cooking. This will keep them fluffy. When they are almost completely cooked, turned off the Ninja Foodi
- Add in the diced green onions. Stir to combine. Serve & Enjoy!
Notes
- This recipe calls for white jasmine rice, please see post for instructions for brown rice if you have brown jasmine rice.

Thank you for this recipe. I had tried another from a different page before and it was soggy. This was great I did it with leftover Chicken and different veg but the texture was perfect

I just love, love, this recipe! Make it at least once a week. I’ve made it with different variations of veggies! Plus with shrimp, chicken, etc. So delicious! My favorite recipe!
Louise
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoy it!

Love the recipe. One question only I made it one time with no problem but today I used the same amount you say for white rice and it gave me the water notice, not sure what happened.
I used shrimp instead of ham for a different version. Love it as always!!!
Louise
It sounds like either your rice wasn't rinsed or some of the starch (or rice) settled to the bottom and triggered the water notice. Rice and starchy foods can be tricky, even letting the rice sit in the water for any period of time before pressure cooking can trigger the water notice when you start PC'ing.

I’m confused- after reading and watching video the seasame oil looks like it’s more than a tablespoon. Am I correct and what is the right amount?
Thank you.
I love your videos
Louise
There is a total of 2 Tbsp of sesame oil in the recipe, one is added in with the rice and the other is added a little later in step 4 when I say to add the remaining ingredients. I guess I need to make that a little more clear. Thanks for bringing this to my attention! I hope you enjoy the recipe!
Cherie
Thank you. In the 1st part of video adding the oil it sure looked like more! Appreciate the response!
Kelsey
Hi! What is the serving size and is a kcal the same as a regular calorie? If not how do I convert it?
Thanks!
Louise
Probably around 3/4 cup and yes, Kcal is the same as calorie.
Julie
Hi!
Do you increase pressure time or liquid if you double or triple the recipe?
Thanks
Louise
Not usually, but I haven't tried this recipe doubled or tripled. I would definitely only double it the first time and see how that works.
Carl Nelson
Louise, I usually make this as a double batch, and I think it does perfectly fine with a straight doubling of the liquid and the same cooking time. Great recipe; I've made it several times with a lot of different variations and it's become a go-to recipe in our house!
Louise
That's wonderful! Thanks for sharing!
